Sunrise

This is a colour sunrise photo of a man standing on a seawall with his camera in hand and the warm orange glow of the day's first light in the background. Redondo Beach, California (2011). In the lower right corner of the photo is the trunk of a large tree that extends upwards and diagonally across the image towards the upper left corner almost dividing the image in half. The tree above the first two metres of trunk is covered in foliage, mostly in silhouette, though some of the large leaves can be seen as being green. Extending horizontally across the picture from the left to the right edges is the white concrete, one and a half metre tall, seawall. In the centre of the photo, standing on the seawall and facing away from the camera is our man photographing the Pacific sunrise. The light is beyond him and he is in shadow with his silhouette clearly defined against the dawn sky. He is viewed from five to ten metres away and with him filling a little less than one quarter of the height of the photo. Beyond the photographer is an orange, almost golden glow from the rising sun. The orange band extends upwards from the top of the seawall to the half way up level in the image. Above this, the colour of the clear and cloudless sky rapidly graduates from orange into blue.

This is a black and white dawn photo in landscape format of a large number of parked Boeing 747 aircraft arranged in rows in longterm storage with a mountain range in the background. Mojave Air and Space Port, California (2016). In the foreground and rising up to a little less than the quarter way up level is desert brush mostly deep in shadow. Above are the neat rows and lines of those parked Boeing 747 aircraft. They are view obliquely with the noses and right side in view and observed from a few hundred metres away. All the planes have their noses pointing to the right. The closest aircraft have a white fuselage and dark tail with the words 'Atlas Air' in large lettering in the centre of the fuselage. In the row behind, the aircraft again have similar colouring but with the words 'Southern Air' in large dark lettering. Most have their forward cargo doors open. Many have engines and other parts removed. In the background the air is hazy with a distant tall and long mountain range stretching across the photo from left to right. Above is a partly cloudy sky with only thin wisps of cirrus high clouds obscuring the heavens.

I told you you'd be seeing #SouthStackLighthouse again soon! Aled and I dropped friends at the #Holyhead ferry terminal very early this morning so we made a detour in time for #sunrise before heading home. And I caught the beacon in full flow, too! ✨
